Miscellany and Sundries

Ghost Hunters

Well, a spotty Internet connection kept me away from my loved li’l Interwebs yesterday, and I must say, you missed … nothing.

I think I’ve mentioned I’ve been reading Stephen King and hoping his powerful prose and the writing style that first told me I wanted to write professionally would inspire me to … well, write.  Not so.  While I’m enamored of King and his words, I still haven’t found that spark which fans to a blazing inferno.  And so both my editing and my writing have languished in forgotten back burner mode, simmering and smoldering, and I hope to return to it before the pot evaporates dry.

Other than that, I sat through a couple of episodes of Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International tonight.  I’ve forgotten how much I love paranormal stories until recently, and this seemed to scratch an itch for me.  But I saw something I found distressing … evidence, to my beloved and I, of faking a paranormal experience.  Wow.  This is supposed to be a “reality” show.  If they’re doctoring the results and then walk away from this saying “Well, it’s not really something we can say is a haunting,” I don’t know what to say.  These guys are the most popular and well-know paranormal investigators in the world.  If they can’t be trusted, who can?  And they’ll surely give a bad name to the paranormal research and investigative industry in general.

Okay, I typed that with a straight face, but if you were here and we were talking, I wouldn’t have made it.  Srsly.

I still have nothing – whatsoever – on the job front.  I can’t say I’m panicking yet, but I had a bad moment tonight.  Just one, but it was bad.  Back on the horse tomorrow.

Nothing more to report, really.  Surprised?  I mean, with my whirlwind life and all the dizzying array of activity swirling around me, who wouldn’t be?  Right?

Hopefully, by the time you read this, I’ll be in better spirits.

Pray for us, y’all.  And know we’re praying for you.

  1. What was faked on GH or GHI? I’m just curious what you saw!

Well, I don’t want to come across condescending or arrogant, but what I saw looked phony to me. It was an episode where Grant’s asleep in a “haunted” hotel, and while the camera’s on, the blanket is pulled back to reveal his foot.

Faked in my opinion because of HOW the blanket was pulled back. Didn’t fold back the way someone at the foot of the bed would fold a blanket back. It accordioned back like … it was pulled by an attached thread or fishing line.

But then, I think you told us you know those guys, didn’t you, Ben? So I don’t want to say anything about your friends that’s perceived as a slam. I just thought it looked fake. But that’s my unbeliever talking.

  2. I don’t know what kind of tech you do but did you hear that IBM is opening up a technical service center in Dubuque, Iowa? I only know because it’s my hometown. Anyway, 1300 jobs is the forecast and they are working with local colleges to set up training programs. Like I said, this may not be helpful to you but there it is.

Thanks! I don’t know if I can use it either … Dubuque’s a loooooong way from here … but thanks! I can use all the leads I can get. 🙂

I’ve watched Ghost Hunters. Mostly, it’s hard to tell what they’ve found but it’s always interesting.

Mostly they don’t find anything. But when they do, they really play it up.

Hey, what's up? Tell me whatcha think!
