…Their cell phone?
I hate mine. I can’t stand mine. I got it when I thought I really wanted one. I saw one back in 2005 and immediately fell in lust with it. Techno-lust is a horrible mistress. I couldn’t swing it at the time, but when I finally could, both my wife and I got one.
It was – oh, I don’t know – say, three weeks later when I called to ask if I could upgrade or replace the phone. The cell carrier politely informed me I had to wait out the two year contract if I wanted to make any changes to my equipment if I wanted to take advantage of discount pricing. But hey – you want to pay full price, go right ahead.
Have you ever priced cell phones? Back in 2006 or so, they were ridiculous. Almost $400 ridiculous. Okay, I guess I’m stuck with this sh!t. I made the bed I’m lying in. *Sigh*
Now the hankerin’ to replace the phone is itching at my inner skull again. (There’s nothing in there, so the empty space itches sometimes.) I don’t have a job, don’t have an income, and can’t really afford even the least expensive cell phone. And in my experience with phones, you get what you pay for. Low-end is inexpensive for a reason. No thanks, methinks. I’ll just wait until things are better (yeah, riiiight) financially and get one then. A real one. One I know I’ll like.
But … how will I know what I like?
I can make a list of features I want. I’ve done that. Things I need the phone to be able to do. No problem there. But how do I know if I’m going to like the thing? See, I don’t just want to use the phone, I want to love the phone. I want to be enamored of its beauty and style, its fit and finish. I want it to look good to me and feel good to me.
One of the primary things I want it to do is fit in my doggone hand. I haven’t had a phone in five or six years that was comfortable in my hand. They are too. damned. small. I hate tiny phones. I don’t want the stupid brick phones of the 80s, or those huge original flip models of the late 90s, but I do want a flip phone with comfortable sized buttons and a nice, legible display. I have fat fingers, because I’m a fat guy. I’m not a 12 year-old girl with tiny li’l fingers and black-polish nails. I don’t want to have to use a stylus to use the keypad. I want to be able to press the buttons with my fingers.
So size does matter, people.
Anyway, I don’t like my phone, and I can’t wait to get a new one. Anyone else? Got a favorite? One you have your eye one? One that’s cool and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg you know about? Sound off and lemme know.
