Well, as you all know, I got the full-time, permanent job. Officially I was hired on Wednesday, with my first day being Thursday, December 9, 2010.
The company is super-awesome. All the people I’ve met are fantastic. Friendly, warm, receptive and easy-going. My boss, a very laid-back and gregarious fellow, warned me about people being a bit different than I perceived, and that’s a given, so I’m okay so far. Nothing unforeseen there.
I have an office for the first time in my career. I’ve been a cube-dweller since 1993, so this is really interesting. I can close my door and be shut off from the whole wide world. I really can’t see closing it, but if I do it will be for conference calls and things like that, not because of naps. Really.
My chair sucks, however, and it causes me much back pain. I’ve been told we can get a new one. I don’t want to come in and start a lot of trouble though, so I won’t raise a fuss about it until I start producing.
Thursday I had a LOT of orientation to do. PowerPoint presentations and documents to sign. I still had more to do this weekend. I got a brand-new laptop which wasn’t ready until Thursday afternoon and I didn’t have my email account ready until Friday afternoon, but it was all set by this weekend. Today (Monday) I’ll be sitting with CSRs and learning what they do and trying to figure out how what I do fits with what they do… not to mention trying to figure out what I do. We’ll see.
Friday my boss left early, and I was able to finish up my training and get some new cell phones lined up, which I ordered on Friday night. Did I mention they were free? NO? Well, they were FREE. Mine we’ll get reimbursed for by virtue of not upgrading our phones for four years, and Fal gets her on a buy-one-get-one free deal. Nothing like new stuff free, and Monday I get to apply my company discount to the cell service and get a 20% discount! WOO, discount! I also get discounts on PCs (WOOOOO!), cars (when I’ll ever be able to afford a car is beyond me), and more. Ah, the perks – the PERKS, my precioussss!
Love ‘em! It’s an awesome company. Now, I have to figure out how NOT to fail and suck. Pray that I will do that sooner rather than later.
Hope you all had a nice weekend – all I did was try and recover. Heh. What about you?
God bless, all.

How awesome is this post, just by virtue of its existence? I imagine it’s hard to align yourself with this new state, after so many years of struggle. The thought brings tears to my eyes, and it gives me hope for my own future. We can be in a situation that seems hopeless, but we never know what’s coming.
Hugs and love to you.
Thank you sweetie. Yes, we never know what’s coming, but sometimes — just sometimes — that light at the end of the tunnel ISN’T the oncoming train. Sometimes. 🙂 Love and hugs back.
This is the best post I’ve read in a long, long time. So happy for you! Perfect timing too!
It IS a happy day, D! Thank you for rooting for us for so long. 🙂
Yay!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
And pretty soon you’ll be paying off your student loans.
How? You mean … they’re supposed to PAY me, too?!
Great news that you are loving your new job!!
Thanks, Bob, and GREAT to see you! Hope you’re doing well! I’m going to be shooting for January to start my weight loss thing — interested in coming along for the ride? 🙂
Sweet deal on those phones!
I thought so too! Thanks! 🙂 Good to see you!
Major fantastic! Free phones and laptops and offices Oh My! Too bad about the painful chair. Could you fix it up with a pillow, perhaps?
Mmm… Not too sure. What seems to help the most is having my knees above my hips. Pillows sort of do the opposite, and this particular chair doesn’t lower enough to help. But thanks for the suggestion! 🙂
How great to come by and hear you happy. Awesome.
Thank you Marta. I know I haven’t posted NEAR enough happy stuff.
Well, there is no happy stuff quota. But it is nice to hear anyway.
True enough, but I think I had more happy to report than I may have let on. Now, however, it’s almost — almost — entirely happy.
This is sooo awesome! I can’t tell you how happy I am for you guys.
Thank you sweetie! 🙂
How totally awesome is that?! Sounds like things are working out well and things are looking up and I couldn’t be more thrilled for you Dane.
Thank you Delaney! 🙂
Sounds like things are going great. God is able, so with Him on your side, you’ll do just fine.
Able, and more than able. Thank you J. L. 🙂 We love those reminders. 🙂
